A Year Since The Mayor of Margaritaville Set Sail
Parrotheads everywhere recently raised their glasses and sang their hearts out in tribute to Jimmy Buffett. September 1 marked the one year anniversary of our fearless captain’s final voyage, and on the first annual Jimmy Buffett Day on August 30, we gathered to celebrate the man who gave us the soundtrack to live by.
Jimmy was more than a musician. He was the embodiment of the good life, a pirate, a poet with a schoolboy’s heart, and the king of laid back living. Through his songs, he taught us to kick back, dig our toes into the sand, and keep our hearts wide open. His music was not only about escaping to a tropical paradise. It was a reminder that paradise can be found wherever we are. His stories taught us to find joy in life’s simple pleasures and to live each day with a smile.
His concerts were legendary. Not only for the music, but also for the powerful sense of community they inspired. Each show felt like a gathering of the Parrothead flock, a celebration of life, and a reminder that we are all part of a larger family, riding this big round ball together.
On Jimmy Buffett Day, we honored his legacy by living the way he taught us to live, carefree, fun loving, and always keeping a little Margaritaville in our hearts. Whether standing by the ocean, sitting near a lake, or relaxing in our own backyards, we soaked up the sunshine, sipped something tall and strong, and shared laughter with friends, exactly as Jimmy would have wanted.
Here is to you, Jimmy, the pirate who taught us to sail through life like a song. Although you have sailed on, your spirit stays with us, and your music will always be the wind in our sails. Bubbles up, Jimmy. You will always be with us.
