Mango Moonlight Margarita: A Parrothead’s Summer Escape in a Glass

Mango Moonlight Margarita

The Mango Moonlight Margarita

A Tropical Twist That’s Ripe for the Sippin’

As June heats up and summer sails in, it’s time to chase that mango moonlight and kick back with a marg that’s smoother than a Jimmy Buffett bridge solo. Say aloha to the Mango Moonlight Marg-a-rita, the juicy, golden-hued drink that tastes like the first night of summer kissed by a warm island breeze.

The Flavor Vibe:  Think sweet, tangy mango with a hint of citrus sass, a splash of coconut mystery, and a tequila base that’ll make your flip-flops tap out a conga beat. This one’s less “salt on the rim” and more “sunset in a glass.”

Legend has it, this margarita was first stirred up under a full moon during a midnight PHlocking in Key West. Someone dropped a mango into the drink cooler, someone else added tequila, and the rest is Parrothead history. The stars aligned. People danced. Someone named Captain Coconut may have proposed to a beach umbrella. OR, I just made that up. That’s showbiz, baby.

The Recipe: Mango Moonlight Marg-a-rita

Serves: 2 laid-back legends

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz silver tequila (the smoother, the better)
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (or triple sec)
  • 1½ oz mango purée or juice
  • ¾ oz coconut cream
  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice (as much as you can handle without creating a snowstorm)

Garnish:

  • Lime wedge
  • Coconut flakes or sugar rim
  • Tiny starfish stirrer or moon-shaped umbrella for bonus vibes

Instructions:

  1. Rim your glass with lime juice and dip in coconut flakes or sugar.
  2. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake like you’re dancing barefoot on a beach.
  4. Pour over fresh ice in your prepped glass.
  5. Garnish. Sip. Smile like the moon’s watching.

Parrothead Pairing Guide

  • Soundtrack: “Come Monday” (if it’s Sunday) or “Banana Republics”
  • Snack: Mango shrimp skewers or a side of lime-drenched plantain chips
  • Attire: Anything with flamingos, pineapples, or both. Bonus points for glow-in-the-dark beads.

A Toast:

Here’s to mango moods, moonlit grooves, and margs that go down smoother than your last voicemail greeting. Wherever you are, raise a glass, and remember—you don’t need a beach to live like you’re on one.
