Denial Is a Beautiful Thing
The calendar says September. Somewhere, someone has already pulled out a sweater, lit a cinnamon candle, and started talking about pumpkin spice.
We wish them well.
Around here, the flip flops are staying put, the blender is still on active duty, and summer isn’t going anywhere until we’re damn good and ready to let it.
The Calendar Is Merely a Suggestion
September has an identity problem.
Technically, summer is winding down. The days are getting a little shorter, evenings are getting a little cooler, and every store within driving distance seems determined to convince us that we should immediately start decorating with pumpkins.
But outside? The sun is still shining. The water is still calling. The patio furniture hasn’t filed for seasonal retirement.
So we’re choosing to believe the evidence directly in front of us.
Summer lives.
Flip Flops Don’t Have an Expiration Date
There are people who believe flip flop season ends when September arrives.
Those people are wrong.
Flip flops aren’t seasonal footwear. They’re a state of mind, a declaration of priorities, and occasionally a questionable choice when temperatures dip below 60.
Still wearing them? Congratulations. You’re one of us.
Pour a Little More Summer
September might be trying to change the subject, but the tiki bar isn’t cooperating.
This month’s Golden Hour Rita captures everything we’re refusing to give up just yet. It’s bright, tropical, and made for that magical stretch of evening when the sun hangs low, everything turns golden, and nobody feels particularly motivated to go inside.
Grab a glass, find a comfortable chair, and enjoy the view. Fall can wait another round.
We’re Not Saying Fall Is Bad
Eventually, we’ll embrace it.
There will be cooler nights, changing leaves, football, bonfires, and plenty of reasons to trade the blender for something a little more seasonal.
But September doesn’t need to be rushed.
Jimmy Buffett spent a lifetime reminding us that paradise has less to do with where you are than how you choose to see the world. Sometimes maintaining that Margaritaville state of mind simply requires ignoring the calendar for a little while longer.
We can do that.
Summer Isn’t Over Until We Say So
Maybe that’s the real beauty of September. It’s the bonus round.
One more boat ride. One more afternoon outside. One more sunset with PHriends. One more frozen concoction while somebody insists it’s technically almost fall.
Let them talk. We’ll be over here in our flip flops.
