The Key Lime Colada Margarita
Creamy, tart, and ridiculously beachy. Like pie, but with tequila.
As summer fades into “almost fall,” September deserves a drink that keeps the sunshine alive while tipping a lime wedge to indulgence. Enter the Key Lime Colada Margarita: a luscious mash-up of a margarita and a piña colada that tastes like vacation and dessert had a beautiful love child.
Rumors say the first Key Lime Colada Margarita came from a bartender in Key West who ran out of pie. Desperate to satisfy a guest’s sweet tooth (and maybe their need for tequila), he whipped up this creamy, tangy concoction. The verdict? Forget pie crust, this version comes with a salt rim and zero regrets.
The Key Lime Colada Margarita Recipe
Serves: 2 Parrotheads (or 1 if you’re “pie-hard”)
Ingredients:
- 2 oz silver tequila
- 1 oz triple sec (or orange liqueur)
- 2 oz key lime juice (fresh if you can, bottled if you can’t)
- 2 oz coconut cream
- 1 oz pineapple juice
- 1 oz agave syrup (or simple syrup)
- 1 cup ice
Garnish:
- Graham cracker rim (yes, really!)
- Whipped cream + lime zest sprinkle
- Lime wheel or wedge
🥄 Instructions:
- Crush graham crackers, then rim your glass with lime juice and dip into the crumbs for that “pie crust” effect.
- In a blender, combine tequila, triple sec, lime juice, coconut cream, pineapple juice, agave, and ice. Blend until smooth and dreamy.
- Pour into your graham-cracker-rimmed glass.
- Top with whipped cream and a dusting of lime zest.
- Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel. Bonus points if you hum “Margaritaville” while serving.
🎶 Parrothead Pairing Suggestions:
- Soundtrack: “Coconut Telegraph” or “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes”
- Snack: Key lime pie bites (because sometimes two desserts are better than one)
- Mood: Hammock nap mode with a splash of sass
🥂 A Toast to September Sippers
“Here’s to friends who flock together,
To sunny days and tiki weather.
To pie in a glass, tequila too,
In September, paradise still feels new.”
Drink it like it’s still summer, because for Parrotheads, it always is. 🌴🍹
