Hops, Boots & Good Times: The Whistle Punk Parrotheads

When you think of the Margaritaville state of mind, you might picture tiki bars and sandy toes, but for PHlockers Craig and Jeneen Hanson, that same laid-back, good-vibes energy shows up in the heart of the Inland Northwest with a pint of craft beer in hand. The couple, who joined our club in 2025, bring a Parrothead spirit of community and laughter to their brewery, Whistle Punk Brewing, where inclusion, friendship, and a shared love of good beer are always on tap.

Craig & Jeneen HansonFrom Logging Boots to Lager

Craig Hanson’s path to brewing is anything but ordinary: a former wrestling coach and teacher, he traded his whistle for wort when he and his son Matt founded Whistle Punk Brewing in 2013 and opened their downtown Spokane taproom in 2017. The name itself honors the region’s logging heritage, “whistle punk” being the worker who signaled the steam engine during old-school logging operations.

Jeneen brings the heart, warmth, and welcoming energy that makes every visit to Whistle Punk feel like a PHlocking in flannel, or a Hawaiian shirt, depending on the day. Whether you stroll in wearing boots, sneakers, or flip-flops, you’re greeted with a smile, a cold beer, and the sense that you’ve just joined the family.

Brewing with Purpose

Whistle Punk doesn’t chase trends or gimmicks, they chase flavor and fellowship. Known for their perfectly crafted lagers and rotating small-batch styles, they focus on tradition, balance, and community. Between their downtown Spokane brewery and the Millwood taproom (opened in 2024), the Hansons have built a place that embodies craftsmanship, camaraderie, and good PHun.

And while their branding nods to the logging life, don’t be surprised when a touch of Margaritaville sneaks in, like their recently tapped “Lovely Cruise” brew, a subtle salute to Jimmy Buffett himself. Those little Easter eggs are a wink to their fellow Parrotheads and proof that island time can exist anywhere, even under the pines.

From the Woods to the PHlock

Craig and Jeneen may prefer pine trees to palm trees, but the vibe remains pure Margaritaville, good people, great music, and drinks that taste best when shared. Their taprooms blend hearty, Pacific Northwest character with a dash of tropical PHun, where the playlist may swing from classic rock to Buffett and the laughter carries like a warm breeze through the timber.

So next time you find yourself near Whistle Punk Brewing, pull up a stool, raise a glass, and soak in the Hansons’ brand of paradise. Because whether your shoes are sandy or sawdust-covered, the feeling is the same, a place where everyone belongs, the pints flow aplenty, and every toast ends in good vibes.

From the woods to the waves, it’s all about good beer, good friends, and good vibes.
